Description
There is so much pain in this world. Afflictions and heartaches in life come quickly and abruptly
and try to steal away all our hopes and dreams. Grief and depression weigh heavily on our hearts.
Grief is no stranger to Jane Harber. Having walked through this “valley of the shadow of death”
many times, Jane found that the solution to overcoming the devastating effects of grief and
depression lies in the Lord.
One Foot on a Banana Peel is a description of grief and an expression of the hope and healing that
lies beyond trauma and tragedy. It offers insight into:
• The Biblical perspective of grief
• What hope is and what it is not
• Contending with God over pain and suffering
• The difference between “reality” and “truth,” and how this can affect
our choices in times of grief and depression
“As deep as the pain goes,” Jane says, “so deep goes the love and grace of God to bring healing.
When you feel as though you have ‘one foot on a banana peel,’ place your other foot in the hand of
God. It’s the safest place there is to be.”
Born in Connecticut in 1945, Jane Harber, her husband, Ray, and their son, Christian, moved to the west Texas area in 1979. A daughter, Brianna, was born to them shortly thereafter. Jane became intimately acquainted with grief after the death of her husband in 1988. In the fifteen years that followed, sixteen additional family members and friends have passed away. Other crises occurred as well, any one of which could have devastated Jane and her family. During those years, Jane worked in prison ministry, and she became a licensed belief therapist in 2001. She now works at providing in-home care for senior citizens in the west Texas area.
